LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A resolution is expected to go in front of the Jefferson County Public School Board Tuesday, proposing the school system replace student resource officers with a district-based law enforcement department.
If approved, this new school year would be the last for SRO’s from Metro Police or other agencies.
According to the Courier-Journal, JCPS would instead create its own department with 48 security officers who would have law enforcement powers.
The new division would cost around $8.8 million annually and around $3.5 million more than the current set up.
