Crystal Springs residents concerned about nearby blasts in Jeffersonville; 'It'll scare the devil out of you.'

Neighbors said the blasting is causing damage to their homes and interrupting their everyday lives.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Residents in the Crystal Springs neighborhood in Jeffersonville are expressing concern about blasts coming from a nearby construction site.

According to Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore, the blasts could be coming from the new Meta data center construction project. It's a $700 million project, but neighbors say it could be costing them.

Sterling Mayfield, who lives in the neighborhood was walking around his pool and noticed new cracks he hadn't seen before.

"Right here, this crack, I just noticed this right now," Mayfield said. He believes the cracks are coming from the frequent blasts that he and his wife feel daily. Mayfield added that not only can he feel the blasts, he can also hear them even with the TV on and they even cause his dog to bark and grandkids to get scared.

Mayfield, a combat veteran with more than three decades in the Army, said the blasts remind him of his time served.

"It triggers some of my PTSD when it goes off," he said.

But he isn't the only neighbor who feel the blasts and is taking issue with it.

Tricia Spellman, who lives a couple of blocks from Mayfield, said she and her husband feel it several times a day.

"The windows vibrate, and you can feel the house shaking, and it scares our dog," she said.

Another neighbor said she had a new foundation poured one year ago and since then, she's seen cracks in her foundation that she said didn't appear until the start of the blasts.

Other neighbors are considering legal action. One person on Facebook saying he's considering a lawsuit after talking with other neighbors.

Mayfield said he wishes he knew who he could contact to figure out the root of the problem.

"It would be nice to know why and what to do to fix the issue. Just going back to the old ways of being neighborly," he said.
