LMPD: Driver in custody after running red light, causing deadly crash on Taylor Boulevard

Police said a person driving a Dodge Charger ran a red light, causing a crash that left one person dead and another injured in south Louisville on Sunday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One person has been arrested following a deadly crash in south Louisville.

Metro police said their Third and Fourth Division officers were dispatched to the crash involving two vehicles near the intersection of Southern Parkway and Taylor Boulevard around 5 p.m. Sunday.

In their preliminary investigation, police said a Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed, ran a red light and crashed into a blue Honda passenger car.

The driver and passenger in the blue Honda were taken to an area hospital. Police said the passenger of that vehicle died from their injuries and the driver has non-life threatening injuries.

The coroner's office later identified the victim as 66-year-old Ardo Hassan.

The Dodge Charger driver, who has not been named, was not hurt but was arrested at the scene.

LMPD said he has been charged with murder, aggravated DUI, assault and other pending charges.

The area where the crash happened has since been reopened to traffic.

LMPD’s Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
