House fire in Newburg neighborhood kills 1 person; What we know

Fire crews are investigating the cause of the fire, however they said the home did not have a working smoke detector.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One person is dead after a house fire in Newburg late Friday night.

Okolona Fire Marshall Frankie Nalley told WHAS11 roughly two dozen firefighters responded to the house fire in the 6100 block of Corinth Way around 10:30 p.m.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control within minutes. Nalley said one person inside the home was taken to the hospital where they later died. Their identity has not been released.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time, however Nalley said the home did not have a working smoke detector. 

Okolona Fire was also assisted by the Fern Creek Fire Department.
