JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — The death penalty is off the table for an accused murderer and cannibal in Southern Indiana.

Joseph Oberhansley is accused of murdering his girlfriend, Tammy Jo Blanton, in September 2014 in her Jeffersonville home. Investigators say he then ate her body parts.

In exchange for dropping the death penalty, Oberhansley will withdraw his insanity plea and no mental health evidence will be presented in his defense.

Prosecutors are now seeking a life sentence without parole.
