LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One day after a deadly shooting at Dosker Manor, residents and advocates are demanding accountability.
Louisville police said officers found a man shot inside the apartment complex around 8 p.m. Saturday. The victim, 39-year-old Antwawn Shackelford, died at the scene and one person was detained.
Sunday afternoon, residents and members of Black Lives Matter-Louisville said they have tried to call attention to the violence and unresolved issues.
Their demands include a residents task force to rehouse requests in queue and space for residents on the Metro Housing Authority Board.
“People keep saying, ‘what if it was your grandmother?’ It is somebody’s grandma! It is somebody’s granddaddy It is somebody’s uncle and auntie – somebody’s mother, and they are worried, and they are concerned. They should not have to live with this kind of worry and concern every day,” Chanelle Helm, Black Lives Matter-Louisville, said.
A statement from the Metro Housing Authority said their mission is “to set a standard of operational excellence in providing quality, affordable housing opportunities for residents to achieve self-sufficiency and an enhanced quality of life, and collaborating with community partners to build strong, viable neighborhoods.”
LMHA said they encourage anyone with maintenance concerns to directly report them right away.
