What we know about the driver who led LMPD on chase before officer shot passenger outside Louisville Walmart

Here is what led up the chase and a suspect being shot on Outer Loop.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There are new details from the incident report about what led to a pursuit and a man shot by police near an Outer Loop Walmart on Wednesday.

A Louisville Metro police officer was parked facing eastbound on the Gene Snyder Freeway when he saw a black car with an expired registration. When running the license, plate records showed the driver of the car, 44-year-old Jeremy Bozarth, had a suspended OL status and two active warrants in Kentucky.

When the officer tried to catch up to him, Bozarth sped up to 101 mph in a 65 zone, the report said.

The officer activated his lights, but Bozarth continued to speed away and a chase began.

The report said Bozarth ran through a light, turned left and continued to the New Cut Road exit off the Gene Snyder. The officer said Bozarth continued to drive recklessly as traffic got thicker and he decided to end the chase.

Bozarth came to the intersection of New Cut and Outer Loop, took a left and hit a red Chevy in the opposing lane. He tried to drive away but the officer pinned Bozarth's car against the patrol car.

The officer commanded Bozarth to get out of the car and he was arrested.

However, the car's passenger ran towards Peddlers Mall and and attempted a carjacking at the Walmart pharmacy drive-thru.

Other LMPD units later arrived to the scene.

Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) Interim Chief Paul Humphrey said an officer gave multiple verbal commands before firing his gun and shooting the passenger multiple times.

The man was transported to UofL Hospital and is expected to survive.

On Friday, LMPD confirmed the identify of the passenger as thirty-seven- year-old Randall D. Allen.

He is charged with resisting arrest, unlawful imprisonment, possession of controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia, robbery, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, wanton endangerment, and fleeing or evading police.

The report says Bozarth told officers he didn't know the passenger and he was the one who encouraged Bozarth to disregard commands and continue driving.

Bozarth was taken to the Jefferson County Detention Center.

LMPD is also gathering a price estimate from the owner of the Chevy whose car was damaged in the chase.
