Ethics Commission's case moving forward through Metro Council

Metro Councilwoman Cindi Fowler provided the update Thursday on the Ethics Commission's findings regarding Anthony Piagentini.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Council Democrats announced Thursday they are moving forward with a charging committee to discuss Anthony Piagentini's, R-District 19, ethics violations from last week.

The Metro Ethics Commission found Piagentini guilty of six ethics violations. He is accused of using his public office to leverage a new job.

Councilwoman Cindi Fowler, D-District 14, announced Thursday during a news conference that she is trying to get a five-member committee together to start the process.

Once the committee is formed, it will meet several times to decide on bringing formal charges against Piagentini. Fowler added it is common practice to have both parties on a charging committee.

She said she extended that offer to her Republican colleagues and hopes to to get a response by Monday. Even if they don't get someone from the Republican party, she said they will move forward.

The Democrats believe the Ethics Commission findings sends a clear message that something must be done.

One thing that gave Fowler hope that a Republican would join them is there was bipartisan support to open an inquiry into Piagentini's situation back in February.

Piagentini said he doesn't have a comment at this time. He recently said he is considering legal action of his own.

Piagentini also told WHAS11 News he is still employed by the Louisville Healthcare CEO Council, but that job had nothing to do with the grant funding they got.
