Expanded alcohol sales proposal passes Metro Council committee

Alcohol cannot be purchased on Sundays before 1 p.m., but a new proposal would extend sales around certain holidays.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A proposal that would extend alcohol sales around certain holidays has passed Metro Council.

Currently, alcohol cannot be purchased in Louisville Metro until 1 p.m. on Sundays.

This year, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve fall on Sunday.

The proposal would allow retailers to sell alcohol from 6 a.m. to midnight on both days.

Both holidays will fall on Sundays again in 2028.

The vote will head to the full Metro Council for a vote.
