Fired reality dance team coach asks UofL for proof of his misconduct

The University of Louisville said they fired Todd Sharp over missing money. He had coached the Louisville Ladybirds.

(WHAS11) – Louisville’s former dance team coach, who was also a reality television star, is looking for answers following his termination in December.

The University of Louisville said they fired Todd Sharp over missing money and said he violated their "cash handling policy." A six-month review found the dance team’s deposits were around $40,000 less than expected.

Sharp's attorney said they haven't seen the six-month review.

Sharp’s attorney, Larry Wilder, wrote to UofL Athletic Director Vince Tyra about Sharps termination to request copies of documents pertaining to his termination. Wilder's multiple requests include wanting copies of Sharp's personnel file, the cash handling policy, and any documents that support the allegation he mishandled money.

"He was terminated for what now the public has been lead to believe is conduct that could be criminal and he has been disparaged by the university by alleging he's engaged in conduct that could be criminal. and we have no ability to understand or know what the basis of those conclusions are," Wilder said.

Wilder said they just want to see the papers, the proof that he did something wrong during his time at Louisville.

"Before we can even more forward and have a realistic opportunity to evaluate what it is that supposedly what took place we have to know exactly what those allegations are and what they rely upon," Wilder said.

Wilder said there is a concern Sharp is being pushed out of the athletic department due to the new changes, changes including the new athletic director and new president.

Sharp had coached the Ladybirds for 16 national championships and the Floyd County Dazzlers. He also owned Planet Dance All-Stars dance studio in New Albany, Ind. Sharp has resigned from coaching the Floyd County Dazzlers since his termination at the university.

UofL's Director of Media Relations said the following:

"Mr. Sharp remains the subject of an investigation by the University of Louisville Police Department. I have no updates to provide on that investigation, nor can I share any details of that investigation."
