Louisville firefighters battling massive historic church fire near downtown

Louisville Fire said they were called to St. Paul's Evangelical Church of Christ around 7:45 p.m.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Fire is investigating a fire that happened near downtown inside one of the area's historic buildings late Wednesday.

Officials said they were called to St. Paul's Evangelical Church of Christ around 7:45 p.m. on reports of a fire with people possibly hanging out of the windows. They arrived on scene in two minutes.

Originally, 60 firefighters were on scene, and evacuated the property in about 10 minutes; officials said one person did flee the scene so they did not receive medical attention.

About 25 more firefighters arrived later in the night to assist they said. They added there is no risk of the fire spreading and that they have it covered.

No injuries or rescues have been reported.

Arson is investigating the cause of the fire.
