2 firefighters hurt while battling 'heavy fire' on Spencer/Bullitt County line

One firefighter was treated at the scene while another was taken to the hospital.

BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. — Two Kentucky firefighters were injured while trying to extinguish a large residential fire Monday.

At about 5 p.m., Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire responded to a working fire in a larger residential structure at the Spencer/Bullitt County line, according to a Facebook post by the department.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions and a "MAYDAY" was called when a firefighter fell through the first floor and into the basement.

Another crew member found the injured firefighter and lead him out of the structure. After this, crews were ordered out of the structure.

One firefighter was treated on scene for injuries and one was transported for medical care and has since been released from the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and there were no civilian injuries.

Mount Eden Fire District provided coverage for TSCFD Station 1 while Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire worked on the fire.

Mount Washington Fire District provided mutual aid for water supply and manpower. Water supply for the incident was supplied by a tanker shuttle operation consisting of nine tankers.
