Ford announces temporary layoffs at Louisville Assembly Plant

According to UAW Local 862 President Todd Dunn, the layoffs are happening due to “parts-related issues” with supply chain vendors and people moving jobs.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Forty-one days after a strike paused production at Ford, the automaker has announced temporary layoffs at the Louisville Assembly Plant.

According to UAW Local 862 President Todd Dunn, the layoffs are happening due to “parts-related issues” with supply chain vendors and people moving jobs.

Starting Nov. 6, approximately 1,600 employees will be laid off for a week, return to work, then another roughly 1,600 employees will be laid off the week of Nov. 13, then everyone is expected to be back the week of Nov. 20 and everyone will be out the week of Nov. 27.

Dunn told WHAS11 News that the move is “short-term, temporary and nothing significant.”

The Detroit Free Press said the layoffs are expected to last through November.

Ford recently announced $1.2 billion in investments at the LAP where they produce the Escape and Lincoln Corsair models.

There are also plans to develop a new electric vehicle at the plant.

In late October, the UAW at Ford plants voted unanimously to approve a tentative contract agreement with the automaker.

Nearly 3,500 workers are employed at the plant just south of the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.
