LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The former leader of Louisville's youth detention center has been indicted for crashing a city-owned vehicle in July, according to court documents.

Toni Rice, former director of the Metro Louisville Youth Transitional Services, resigned from her position in August while the crash was under investigation.

Friday, she was indicted for criminal mischief, intimidating a participant in the legal process, tampering with a witness, failure to stop and render aid, official misconduct in the first degree, falsely reporting an incident, and tampering with physical evidence.

In court on Friday, Rice plead not guilty and a judge set her bond at $5,000. She has since posted that bond.

Rice has a pretrial conference scheduled for Monday at 9 a.m.

According to the documents, on July 31, Rice damaged a car belonging to Louisville Metro Government causing the loss of $1,000 or more.

It said on the same day Rice, "believing that an official proceeding may be pending or instituted against her," tampered with physical evidence that could be used in an official proceeding or fabricated physical evidence.

Rice is also accused of intimidating witnesses, among other charges. The indictment doesn't explain the alleged incidents she's charged for however.

Mayor Craig Greenberg's office said Rice is no longer an employee of the city.

"We have no tolerance for this type of misconduct, and we appreciate LMPD’s hard work to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter," a spokesperson for the mayor said in a statement.
