LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A former Louisville police officer who was arrested for drunk driving the night he graduated plead guilty in court Thursday.
On Aug. 26, Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) responded to multiple calls for service in relation to a non-injury collision in the area of Frankfort Avenue and McCready Avenue.
Once on scene, police found several parked cars that were hit by a Luis Rodriguez. LMPD said he was still in the driver's seat of his vehicle when they arrived.
Through investigation, authorities said alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident.
Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel "immediately" fired Rodriguez upon learning about the officer's arrest. He graduated from the academy on Friday, Aug. 25 and his first shift was scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 27.
Rodriguez was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence (aggravated circumstances).
He was sentenced to 4 days on home incarceration (26 days conditional discharge), and his license was suspended for 6 months.
Rodriguez is also required to have two years of probation, and must enter an alcohol education program/pay restitution to people who were involved in the initial crash, including paying for the damages.
His next court hearing is scheduled for March 28, 2024 at 9 a.m.
