LEXINGTON, Ky. — A former University of Kentucky student will spend 12 months in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting a student desk clerk and using racial slurs during the incident inside a dormitory, according to the ABC affiliate in Lexington.

Sophia Rosing pleaded guilty to four counts of fourth-degree assault, one count of disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

This comes after a video showed Rosing, who is white, hitting a Black desk worker and calling her racial slurs while intoxicated. The video gained widespread attention after being circulated online in 2022.

Rosing was arrested the night of the attack and was later banned from the UK campus. She also withdrew from the university after her arrest, she is banned from ever re-enrolling.

Rosing also attacked an officer who responded to the scene.

Shortly after the video went viral, Boyd Hall, the dorm where the attack happened received a harassing phone call of a racial slur on loop.

UK spokesperson Jay Blanton confirmed the call was made from out of state and the phone number was blocked.

UK students also rallied around the student who was attacked and showed support for her and their commitment to ending racism on campus.

In addition to her prison sentence, Rosing is required to complete 100 hours of community service.

At the time of Rosing's arrest UK President Eli Capiluto released a statement condeming the attack.

“We condemn this behavior and will not tolerate it under any circumstance," he said. "The safety and well-being of our community has been — and will continue to be — our top priority."
