LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A father and husband was shot and killed doing something so many of us do, driving to work.

Mukhtar Ahmad died after he was shot and killed during a road rage incident on Interstate 71 Wednesday, Feb. 25.

The suspect Christopher McCullum is charged with murder and made his first appearance in court Thursday morning.

WHAS11 has learned this is not McCullum's only involvement in a deadly crash.

Ahmad's friend Khalid Kahloon calls this father and husband a loving businessman and happy person.

"Very hardworking, taking care of his family here, very energetic young, outgoing always gracious, peaceful never had an argument with anyone," Kahloon said.

LMPD said Ahmad was shot and killed by Christopher McCullum Feb. 25 on I-71 south near the Snyder.

"It's so senseless, that family and friends they essentially just keep coming back to why," Kahloon said.

WHAS11 has learned through accident reports that McCullum left a white van that had ran out of gas on I-65 South near Grade Lane in January.

Thirty-five-year-old Jeremy Alexander was driving a vehicle which ran into that van and he died.

McCullum was stopped by officers on Feb. 25 at I-64 and Blankenbaker in a white van witnesses say he was in when he shot and killed Ahmad.

Kahloon is still beyond hurt.

"No one expects that while they're on their way to work they're going to be gunned down by a fellow motorist on the highway that they take every day," Kahloon said.

Family tells us Ahmad owns a Dairy Mart on Market, he was the primary supporter for his family here and overseas in Pakistan.

"He was the one if there was a gathering somewhere you would always hear his voice, he was a very warm and peaceful person," Kahloon said.

Homicide Detectives say right now there is no connection between McCullum and Ahmad. McCullum's next court appearance is March 9.
