Gov. Beshear to travel to Georgia for Harris campaign event

During an interview with WHAS11 News on Saturday, Gov. Andy Beshear said he was asked by the Harris campaign to attend an event in Atlanta on Sunday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear is headed to the battleground state of Georgia to campaign for current VP Kamala Harris as she makes a run for president.

During an interview with WHAS11 News on Saturday, Gov. Andy Beshear said he was asked by the Harris campaign to attend an event in Atlanta on Sunday.

“Vice President Harris has created more energy that I’ve ever seen in politics – bigger fundraising and more volunteers. Those volunteers deserve to have people show up and thank them and to ask them to do more,” he said.

Beshear is still one of many candidates being considered as a vice presidential running mate on the Harris Democratic ticket.

The governor will appear alongside Hadley Duvall, a Kentucky woman who was raped by her stepfather as a teen and now an advocate for abortion rights.

“Hadley is such an incredible leader. What an amazing platform – she’s out standing up for young women that deserve to have their reproductive freedom protected. She’s out there fighting for a world where my mom and daughter and my wife don’t have a constitutional right stripped away from them that they’ve had either or most of all of their lives. Hadley is a warrior and I’m just so proud of her,” Beshear said.

As the excitement about Harris’ campaign continues to grow, Beshear believes she would make a phenomenal president.

“She is going to be a phenomenal president. She is smart and strong, and that makes you a good president, but she's also kind and has empathy. I've seen it myself that can make you a great president. She's tough as nails. Listen, I know a former Attorney General when I see one and as AG’s, you got to take on the biggest, toughest interest. I took on opioid manufacturers. She took on for profit, colleges and large corporations that were ripping people off. You can have a president that stands up for everyone, that cares for everyone. I am excited about what she can bring, but I also believe that she can move us past all this craziness.”

Details of when Beshear will speak in Atlanta have not yet been made available.
