Police: Woman steals Green County police cruiser with suspect in backseat, both now in custody

Officials told WHAS11 a woman jumped into the driver's seat and began driving toward officers while police were executing a search warrant.

GREENSBURG, Ky. — Two people are in custody after allegedly stealing a police vehicle in Green County late Sunday night.

Greensburg Police Department Chief Josh Judd said an officer was attempting to serve an arrest warrant on 35-year-old Jason Marta on Creason Lane, just off U.S. Route 68, around 7 p.m. Sunday night.

Marta allegedly got into a "minor altercation" with the officer, but he was able to put the man in handcuffs and place him in the back seat of his police cruiser.

However, as the officer dealt with the man, 30-year-old Alisha Posey then jumped into the driver's seat and began taking off, Judd said.

According to a press release, as the officer tried to regain control of the vehicle, Posey began accelerating towards the officer. Judd said the officer fired shots at the vehicle, but the two suspects were able to escape.

It's unclear what the relationship between the two individuals is at this time.

Lt. Richie French told WHAS11 crews the abandoned police cruiser was later found about 12 miles away on Marshall Road, but the two individuals were gone.

Judd said Marta and Posey were eventually found and arrested without injury around 3 a.m. Monday morning.

Posey has been charged with theft by unlawful taking of a vehicle and attempted murder of a police officer. Her bond has been set at $250,000 cash.

Marta is charged with possession of marijuana and does not have a bond at this time.

Both Marta and Posey will be back in court on Nov. 27.

Officials said Kentucky State Police will handle an investigation into the officer who fired the shots at the suspect.
