Police are investigating after a southern Indiana man was found dead in an overturned car in Greenville over the weekend.

The Floyd County Sheriff's Office and Greenville Fire Department responded to the crash just before 4 p.m. Sunday in the 7700 block of US Highway 150, according to a news release.

When officers arrived, they found 49-year-old Michael Dunn, of Palmyra, Indiana, dead inside a 2008 BMW Sedan.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation determined Dunn was travelling west on US 150 when he somehow lost control of the vehicle, went down an embankment, overturned, and struck several trees.

Police are unsure when the crash occurred as it wasn't reported by any witnesses, adding the vehicle seems to have been there "for quite some time."

An investigation into the deadly crash remains ongoing at this time.
