The Clayton County Police Department said they were "relieved" and that Officer Soumah was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Clayton County Police officer escaped with minor injuries Friday morning after Tropical Storm Helene brought down a tree in the path of his cruiser as he was on his way home.

The Clayton County Police Department posted about the incident on Facebook and shared photos of the "completely destroyed" police vehicle.

"After working an intense morning watch shift serving and protecting the citizens of Clayton County during hurricane Helene, Officer Soumah was traveling home on Highway 138 when a hardwood tree suddenly fell onto the front of his patrol vehicle, completely destroying it," the post said.

Despite the scare, Officer Soumah only sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, CCPD said.

"It’s truly a blessing that he wasn’t driving faster, as the tree could have landed directly on the cab," the department said. "We are relieved that Officer Soumah is doing well and extend our gratitude for his dedicated service to the citizens of Clayton County."
