LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Honor Flight Bluegrass is sending veterans to Washington, D.C.
The Louisville-based organization tries to locate and identify eligible veterans to visit their respective war memorials in D.C. This non-profit organization operates solely through volunteer efforts to send the veterans via first class and police escort to memorials that honor their service and sacrifices.
In 2019, the organization has one flight scheduled for Sept. 4, and another on Oct. 16.
Local World War II veteran Bob Rogers will be on the flight Sept. 4. Rogers joined the Army as a 19-year-old less than two years after the attack on Pearl Harbor, serving from 1943-45.
