Indiana State Police warn of 'pastor' scam targeting church directories

Police said scammers are using church directories to contact members while pretending to be a pastor and requesting gift cards.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Indiana State Police are warning Hoosiers of a scam targeting members of various churches throughout the area.

Scammers are apparently using church directories and pretending to be the pastor of the church.

They are then requesting gift cards to be purchased and given to the individual claiming to be the pastor for the purpose of sending them to those in need.

Gift cards are a common form of payment used by those who are scamming, according to police.

ISP said these individuals are preying on those who have a giving heart and want to help others.

They are asking people to do their research before donating to anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
