JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Jeffersonville police are warning teenagers of the dangers of drunk driving after an overnight crash claimed the life of a 19-year-old.
According to police, officers responded to a rollover crash involving one vehicle just after 4 a.m. Saturday on Vissing Park Road near Vissing Park.
Officers said multiple people were about 7 or 8 people in the car at the time of the crash.
Witnesses who were near the scene told police the group of individuals had been drinking alcohol at Vissing Park before the crash.
The driver, a 16-year-old girl, showed signs of impairment, according to officers.
Police confirmed a number of those inside the vehicle fled the scene but were later found at various hospitals. Those who remained were treated at the scene with some taken to area hospitals including Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville.
Jeffersonville Police said 19-year-old Raven Sierra Newsome died from her injuries while the conditions of the others have not been released.
However, Jeffersonville Police wants the community to remember the dangers of drunk driving, especially among juveniles.
“We urge everyone to understand the devastating consequences of impaired driving.”
