6-year-old dies in Borden crash on Hwy. 60

BORDEN, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A morning crash off Highway 60 in Borden killed a 6-year-old boy less than two months after his younger brother died.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office said Ayden Roberts died at a hospital from blunt-force trauma after a three-car crash around 8 a.m. in the 15000-block of Highway 60. That is about a mile away from where his 2-year-old brother, William, died in a drowning accident.

"It's sad, really said," Don Wilson, who lives in the 15000-block of Highway 60, said. "I pray for the family. All I seen was cops everywhere. The three cars were smashed on the road. There was debris everywhere."

"Our first immediate action is to get everyone medical attention," Capt. Scottie Maples with the Clark County Sheriff's Office said.

Maples said Ayden's father, Peter Roberts, was driving the two of them westbound on Highway 60, when witnesses claimed they saw him drive into a ditch off the side of the road, then tried to drive back onto the pavement. That's when the Sheriff's Office said Roberts hit two other cars.

"Well it's a state of shock at first," Wilson said about the scene. "You're like, 'Whoa, how close...' It could have been me. It could have been somebody I knew."

The Sheriff's Office said Ayden was rushed to Norton Children's Hospital where he died.

"It's a bad scene and our thoughts are with all the families involved," Maples said.

"I immediately think of mine, how easily it could have been me or one of my kids," Wilson said. "I really pray for the families. I mean it's all you can do."

The Sheriff's Office said the three adults involved in the crash suffered minor injuries but all are expected to survive. The crash is still under investigation.
