911 caller recalls deadly southern Indiana plane crash that killed three

Gary Brocar, the first person at the scene of the crash, said what he saw was too painful to put into words.

CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) — The first person on the scene of the deadly southern Indiana crash recalled his actions moments after seeing the explosion.

Gary Brocar said the crash still haunts him, thinking back to making the 911 call two weeks ago.

"When the plane went over here and crashed into the woods, I could see the explosion," Brocar said. "I just grabbed the walking cane and took off through the woods there, straight line as I could until I saw the explosion."

Brocar was running into the woods as he called dispatch.

"I just start screaming is anyone alive? Is anyone ok?" Brocar recalled.

As he got closer to the site of the crash, Brocar said he feared the worst. What he saw was too painful to put into words.

Brocar said he did everything he could, but most damage had already been done. He said he spoke to investigators, and hopes he can help bring closure to the victims' families.

"I hope that my even saying a word can help with closure, because I wasn't going to say anything, but I need closure myself," Brocar said. "I'm so sorry that I couldn't help. I gave it everything that I had...it wasn't enough. I'm sorry."
