CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) – Clark County has chosen its next Sheriff, Republican Jamey Noel, currently serving with Indiana State Police.

"I'm excited – its been a long, long campaign. I am excited about tonight [and] I am looking forward to good work ahead and to make some positive change in the sheriff's department," Noel said.

Noel narrowly beat out independent Mac Spainhour and the interim Sheriff Democrat Bryan Meyer.

It was a tough three way contest for a department that has seen tough times. Meyer was appointed after former Sheriff Danny Rodden was indicted and plead guilty to lying to the FBI about his relationship with a prostitute.

Rodden's first replacement John Kahafer passed away shortly after taking over for Rodden, leaving the job for Meyer.

"I knew it was going to be a close race – I knew three of us in it that it was going to be close and we worked as hard as we could," Meyer said. Nothing to hold our heads about, pretty proud effort that everybody made and I get up at 8 o'clock and I am still the sheriff for two more months. I will go in there at 8 o'clock in the morning and start working towards making it a better place to work."

"They were ready for a change. I think that was overwhelmingly. It was a tough race because it was a three way race. I'm friends with both of those guys," Noel said.

Both Noel and Meyer say it was a tough fought race and they look forward to working together to keep the department moving forward.
