CLARKSVILLE, Ind. — The Town of Clarksville unanimously approved the establishment of a riverfront development project area during the council's meeting on Tuesday.
This allows the town to issue local liquor licenses without going through the typical process with the state, Ken Conklin, communications director for Clarksville, confirmed with WHAS11. However, the license must be for a business within three miles of the river.
"If approved by the state, this would be a huge milestone in the Town of Clarksville’s efforts to create a new downtown area," Conklin said. "Considering the future conference center in that area, this would make it easier to provide liquor licenses for new hotels, restaurants, etc."
Now, an application requesting 20 licenses will be sent to the state for approval. This will be one license per block.
