LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Town of Clarksville is making progress on upgrading its floodwall.
The project has been in the works since June 2023 as the town redevelops South Clarksville and creates a new downtown district.
According to communications director Ken Conklin, the town had to order a new, 54-foot wide floodgate that comes with a $1.5 million price tag which is part of the $4.5 million floodwall widening project.
The 16-foot tall, 80,000-pound wall will be transported from New Albany to downtown Clarksville late Sunday with installation expected to occur at noon on Tuesday, June 18. A large crane will be used to install the rolling steel floodgate.
Once the floodwall is near completion, it is expected a decorative steel top will be added.
The Town of Clarksville said the wall will provide better views of the Ohio River and the Louisville skyline from Main Street.
Riverside Drive will see new sidewalks, bike lanes and two lanes of traffic.
