NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS11) – Any decent animal lover will tell you that animals are just as much a part of your family as anyone else.

For Matthew and Emily Latimer, they get to do what they love every single day.

"To build my dream facility back home for lack of a better term was a no-brainer, very easy for me. The thing was making sure it was the right decision for our family," Matthew said.

That dream facility sits on Charlestown road in New Albany near the intersection with Lafayette Drive.

Matthew and Emily met at Western Kentucky University. Neither went and immediately majored in veterinarian medicine. This field and this marriage was pre-destined.

"Actually started as a business major about three semesters into that I knew that wasn't the career for me," Emily said.

Emily is from Bowling Green, Kentucky and Matthew is from New Albany, Indiana.

After watching his father Steve practice dentistry in New Albany for more than 30 years, Matthew fell in love with another type of medicine. He fell in love with Emily and never lost his love for his treasured hometown.

"We came from hard working parents and they built a foundation of hard work for us," Matthew said.

"With great risk comes great reward and if you want to follow your dreams, if this is what you want to do, if this is where your true passion lies, you can't think of things that could happen," Emily said.

With determination and faith, the pair opened their own clinic while working hard and investing in their community. Although they were born in the 1980's, they're living the American Dream and wouldn't want to call anywhere else but Kentuckiana their home.

"Honestly, I don't want that feeling to ever go away because I think if you don't have some anxiety maybe a little fear, you can kind of get complacent," Matthew said.

"[I want to] continue to follow in the generations that have come before us and continue to work hard and continue to follow your dream," Emily said.

Surrounded by tons of fur and fire in their souls, these business owners are united by their love for animals. It's an entrepreneurial spirit and the will to tackle life and the pursuit of happiness.
