Duke Energy restore power to Indiana customers following Friday's high winds

Duke Energy said 62,000 Indiana customers have had their power restored.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Duke Energy's late night and overnight efforts to restore power allowed more than 62,000 Indiana customers to regain power following Friday's high winds as remnants from Helene moved through the area.

Reports show more than 70,000 customers experienced a power outage and approximately 9,700 customers remain without power as of 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

Helene's high winds and heavy rains caused power lines and structures to be damaged throughout the company's Indiana service area.

More than 25 of Duke Energy's Indiana operation centers were affected by the storm.

While crews are still making repairs while assessments are still underway, Duke Energy will provide restoration time for power once there is more information available.

A spokesperson for Duke Energy says crews in Northern Indiana counties will move to areas that are more affected to speed restoration.

“We made strong progress last evening and overnight, repairing broken poles and down power lines,” said Duke Energy Indiana President Stan Pinegar. “Our priority is always to restore service as quickly and safely as possible, and we appreciate our customers’ patience while we complete restoration.”
