LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- The Falls of the Ohio State Park's brand new Interpretive Center is almost complete. The multi-million dollar project has been under construction for a year but on Friday will reopen to the public.

The new facility features new interactive exhibits, so that when visitors walk through the doors of the Interpretive Center, they will be taking a walk through time.

"People will go through a time tunnel as they progress through time, they start with the Devonian Sea exhibit," Dani Cummins, Executive Director of the Falls of the Ohio Foundation, said.

The center has four brand new exhibits that take people back hundreds of millions of years to a time when the area looked very different than it does today.  From touch screens, to big screens, to interactive displays, the new exhibits are an engaging way to learn about the Falls and it's deep history.

"For these exhibits and for our visitors we wanted to come up to date to the 21st century, these exhibits are meant to engage the visitor in the experience, not just read and look at," Cummins said.

The $6 million project reconfigured the building so that the new exhibits could be designed and built.  It also revamped the auditorium, a makeover that staff say the 22–year-old facility desperately needed to compete with other area tourist attractions.

"We've had people from over 100 countries, every state visit us in the past and we anticipate many more people coming now that we're reopening with a brand new show," Cummins said.

The Interpretive Center opens on Friday at 1 p.m. and admission is free.
