COLUMBUS, Ind. — Parts of a southern Indiana dentist office are destroyed after an early morning fire on Tuesday.
At about 3:45 a.m., Columbus Fire Department responded to a fire at 901 3rd Street in Columbus, Ind., according to a Facebook post by the department.
Officials say that when firefighters arrived on scene, they saw fire coming through the roof. Crews took a defensive approach after firefighters entered the building and discovered how deteriorated the interior of the building was.
With heavy fire gaining ground in the attic space of the building, firefighters set up two master streams. The elevated water streams operated for approximately one hour before the fire was considered "under control."
No injuries were reported. Authorities say much of the roof was destroyed during the fire fight. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no damage estimate has been provided at this time.
As firefighting efforts were underway, the business owners arrived on scene. Dr. Laura Bracken told investigators that the business had operated for approximately 20 years in its current location.
Agencies that assisted at the scene include Columbus Township Fire and Rescue, Columbus Police Department, Center Point Energy, Duke Energy and Columbus City Utilities.
