1 dead, 2 injured after shooting near Harvest Homecoming in New Albany

Police want to make clear the shooting happened outside of the area where the fall festival is held.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — New Albany police are investigating a fatal shooting not too far from Harvest Homecoming festivities.

According to New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey, officers responded to the area of State and Black Avenue in reference to the incident.

Officers who were assigned to Harvest Homecoming heard shots near the Floyd County Family YMCA at State Street.

Bailey notes the area where the shooting happened was “outside” of the Harvest Homecoming area in a parking area.

Police said one of the victims died at the scene while two others were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The deceased has not been identified.

Police gave a generic description of a suspect. He is identified as a Black male with dreadlocks and was wearing a reddish hoody. They said he remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
