Hoosier breaks state record for smallmouth bass

The fish that angler Rex Remington reeled in was one pound heavier than the previous record.

This Hoosier angler is making waves with his latest catch.

According to a news release, Rex Remington caught an 8 pound, 4 ounce smallmouth bass on Monroe Lake on March 3. He beat the record by one pound.

He released the fish back into the lake.

Smallmouth bass are one of Indiana's three species of black bass; the other two are largemouth and spotted bass according to the release.

Monroe Lake is 10 miles south of Bloomington, Indiana.
