BROWNSTOWN, Ind. — Police are investigating after a man who was being held in a southern Indiana jail died in his cell Tuesday night.
At about 5:15 p.m. in Brownstown, Ind., Jackson County Jail staff responded to a holding cell to check on an incarcerated man, later identified as Antonio Fox, 35, of Jackson, Mississippi, according to an Indiana State Police news release.
While jail staff was speaking to Fox, authorities say he collapsed in his cell. Jail personnel began administered life-saving measures until Jackson County EMS arrived on scene to provide further medical care.
Fox was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Indiana State Police is leading the death investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office for review.
