NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Public safety has been a top concern for voters heading to the polls in November.
Indiana Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jennifer McCormick visited New Albany on Monday, just days after a shooting near Harvest Homecoming claimed the life of an 18-year-old innocent bystander.
WHAS11 News asked the candidate about how she would combat gun violence in the Hoosier state.
“We need to make sure we repeal the permitless carry and reverse that. We need to make sure we’re looking at the age in which people can get guns and just be common sense about it. Safe storage needs to be considered,” McCormick said.
Republican candidate U.S. Senator Mike Braun has shared his public safety plan online.
The plan includes prioritizing a collaborative approach to combating the drug crisis, championing policies that support police and investing in local mental health treatment facilities to help those in crisis receive the care they need.
Braun is expected to campaign in southern Indiana at the end of October.
Indiana voters will decide who their next governor will be on Election Day which is Nov. 5.
