JEFFERSONVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A southern Indiana auto parts plant will pay a fine for alleged safety violations that were found after a worker's death last month.
Melissa Stephens died October 21 after an accident with a machine at the Jeffersonville Autoneum plant.
A spokeswoman with the state's Occupational Safety and Health Administration said two of the five safety violations carried a“high probability of death or serious harm.” One of those was the failure to protect workers from loose clothing being caught in rotating machine parts.
Autoneum was fined $224,000 because the spokeswoman said if the appropriate safety precautions were in place Stephens would be alive today.
