Indiana State Police investigating incarcerated man's death inside Clark County jail

The sheriff's office says a 63-year-old man died at the jail on Monday. They say Indiana State Police is the lead agency investigating.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — The Clark County Sheriff's Office says a 63-year-old incarcerated man died at the jail on Monday.

The department says no foul play or "anything nefarious" is suspected, but the Indiana State Police (ISP) is leading an investigation.

Assistant Chief Mark Grube confirmed the death over the phone Friday evening and said the office did not issue a press release earlier this week because Indiana State Police (ISP) is the lead agency investigating.

ISP never sent a press release either. WHAS11 asked state police for comment Friday after normal business hours and has not received a response.

Grube said the man's name was Carl D Jewell and he was from Kentucky.
