JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — A Jeffersonville man has been pronounced dead after an accidental fall on a sidewalk early Wednesday morning.

Around 12:30 a.m., the Jeffersonville Police Department said officers responded to a "distress call" in the area of Spring Street and West Maple Street, regarding a man found unresponsive on the sidewalk, according to a news release.

Authorities said the man was later identified as 66-year-old Ed Caudill. He was pronounced dead upon police arrival.

Detectives were dispatched to the scene to conduct an in-depth investigation into the circumstances surrounding Caudill’s death.

The investigative efforts have included "thorough" scene processing, canvassing, interviews, post-mortem examinations, and a review of surveillance footage.

"After careful consideration of available information, the preliminary findings indicate that the manner of death for Ed Caudill is determined to be an accident caused by a fall," Jeffersonville Police said. "The police do not believe anyone is complicit in Caudill’s fall, and therefore, are not looking for anyone else regarding the investigation."

There is no danger to the public. Officers said they will continue to investigate this incident to make sure they have a complete understanding.

Jeffersonville Police said they extend their "deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ed Caudill during this difficult time."
