Jeffersonville mayor supports pay raises, schedule changes for police

"It will send a message that Jeffersonville is committed to compensating our officers for their work and sacrifice," Mayor Mike Moore said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jeffersonville police officers might be getting a raise soon.

Mayor Mike Moore expressed his support on Thursday for police raises and changes to their schedules.

According to a news release, under a proposed amendment to the collective bargaining agreement between Jeffersonville and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #100, patrolman salaries would increase from $59,714.92 to $66,000 on July 1.

Moore said this salary increase would help bring the pay for their officers in line with other departments in the area.

"It will send a message that Jeffersonville is committed to compensating our officers for their work and sacrifice," he said.

Jeffersonville police officers might also get their schedules changed; Moore wants an 8.5 hour work day with five days on and four days off.

“This creative work schedule would be the first in the region and one of the few in the nation,” said Moore. “It allows our officers to have more flexibility in their work schedule in a very stressful job so they can spend more time with their families.”

The mayor also proposed increasing longevity pay for officers from 1.5% of a patrolman's pay for each year of service for 25 years according to the release.

The City Council is expected to consider these changes at it's next meeting on Monday at 6 p.m.
