Kennedy Reid eliminated from American Idol; 'I feel like a winner in my heart'

Kennedy Reid didn't get enough votes to immediately move on to the next round, but had one last chance to secure her place.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kennedy Reid's time on American Idol has come to end after Monday night's episode left her just shy of making it into the next round.

Last week, the 23-year-old from Sellersburg, Indiana went for a heartwarming performance with a rendition of "Love Can Build a Bridge" by the Judds in the Top 20 round.

Unfortunately, she didn't receive enough votes to secure a place in the Top 10, putting her in the Danger Zone.

Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie then had to decide which of the remaining contestants would move forward.

In one final performance, Reid sang "Somethin' Bad" by Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood, but the judges chose not to save her, eliminating her from the popular singing competition.

Wow ya’ll! What a ride. It was definitely an experience I will never forget and while I’m sad that it’s over, I’m so...

"While I'm sad that it's over, I'm so excited to finally be breathing some fresh air," Reid wrote on social media early Tuesday morning. "I can't wait to grow as an artist without having to compete."

Reid said her American Idol experience has been "wild" over the past year, but added she is grateful to have had so much support during her time on the show.

"I may not be the next American Idol, but I feel like a winner in my heart," she said. "Out of 60,000 auditions, I made it to the final 20. That to me says enough. This is only the beginning of my music career and there are big things coming."
