Southern Indiana traffic stop ends with Kentucky man's arrest after meth discovery

A driver with expired tags has landed in jail after a traffic stop led to the discovery of meth on I-265 Monday morning.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Paducah, Kentucky man is facing felony drug charges stemming from a traffic stop in southern Indiana.

An Indiana State Police trooper noticed a Toyota Highlander with expired tags near the 11-mile marker of I-265 East around 7 a.m. Monday.

ISP said the driver, 37-year-old Billy D. Chapman Jr., was pulled over and “noticed indicators of criminal activity” and that Chapman didn’t have a valid license.

The trooper also discovered Chapman had three active felony warrants for vehicle theft – two in Illinois and one in Ohio.

Chapman was detained while another trooper arrived on scene with a K-9 to assist with the stop. The K-9 alerted troopers of the presence of drugs and a search was conducted.

Troopers found 16 grams of suspected meth, various plastic bags, vacuum sealing equipment, a digital scale and suspected drug paraphernalia.

Chapman was taken into custody.

His charges include dealing in meth over 10 grams, possession of meth, possession of paraphernalia and operating a vehicle having never received a license.

Chapman is currently housed at the Clark County Jail.
