LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A planned implosion of a power plant boiler house in New Albany left many wondering what made their homes shake in parts of Louisville Saturday morning.
Duke Energy said they sent letters to residents on both sides of the river warning them of the impending implosion.
It did not give an exact time, only saying it was “happening this weekend.”
Duke Energy’s boiler house of the retired Gallagher Station on Jackson Street came down, surrounding the plant with thick, black smoke around 9 a.m.
While some felt the trembles and heard loud noises, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office said the implosion was “held in close coordination with local law enforcement and emergency management to ensure site safety and security.”
A company spokesperson said the building came down successfully and safely with everything going as planned.
They said the implosion has been in the works for quite some time.
