Authorities identify 19-year-old found dead in southern Indiana lake

The body of a swimmer was found Sunday afternoon in Patoka Lake near the overlook dam.

DUBOIS COUNTY, Ind — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after they found the body of a young man Sunday afternoon in Patoka Lake.

At about 1:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of the overlook dam for a person who went under water and never resurfaced, according to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) news release.

Conservation officer divers on scene found the body of Edgar Osbaldo Garcia Herrera, 19, of Evansville, at about 4:30 p.m.

Other assisting agencies included the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department, Jasper Memorial EMS and Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

On June 30, police found the body of a 24-year-old in Patoka Lake.

Indiana Conservation Officers warned the public in the news release to always wear your life jacket when on or around the water.
