At about 1:30 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff's Department responded to a crash near CR 300 East and CR 300 South, just east of State Road 39 in Brownstown Township.

Investigators believe Kim Kaufman, 66, of Vallonia, Ind., was riding his silver 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he attempted to pass a dump truck. While attempting to pass the truck, Kaufman lost control of the motorcycle and left the roadway, striking a mailbox.

Kaufman was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.
