Police in New Albany find body of teenager last seen swimming in Silver Creek

New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said they found the teenager's body near their initial search area.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — New Albany Police have found the body of the teenager that was last seen swimming in a local creek on Monday.

According to New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey, New Albany first responders, Clarksville first responders and Indiana Conservation Officers were called to Silver Creek near Providence Way around 4 p.m. to search for the teenager.

Witnesses told first responders 14-year-old Andre Edwards Jr. went underwater but then didn't come back up.

Crews were out in boats and walking along the banks as part of the search effort until it got too dark to continue.

In an update sent to WHAS11 News just before 11:30 p.m., Bailey said they found Edwards near their initial search area.

The New Albany Police Department Criminal Investigations Office is investigating the incident.
