Police: Woman dead after being hit by semi on interstate in southern Indiana

Police said the woman had left her vehicle on the Lanesville offramp for some unknown reason and then entered the interstate on foot.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman has died after she was struck in on I-64 in southern Indiana early Saturday.

According to Indiana State Police, authorities in Harrison County called for assistance with a semi versus a pedestrian crash on I-64 near the Lanesville exit.

The woman’s lifeless body was found in the roadway between the Lanesville exit and the Crandall/Lanesvile Road overpass.

In Indiana State Police’s initial investigation, they said a driver operating a 2003 Peterbilt told them he swerved and missed the woman in the eastbound lanes but drove off the left side of the roadway, crashing through a cable barrier before stopping on the westbound side.

A second semi that was also headed eastbound was unable to avoid hitting the woman who they said was in the middle of the righthand lane.

Police believe the woman had left a vehicle on the Lanesville offramp. They said she then walked toward the interstate for some unknown reason before she was hit.

The woman has not been identified, however, police said she had “several identifications” in her possession from multiple states with different identities.

ISP believes the woman could be possibly from Columbia.

The interstate was closed for nearly five hours while ISP’s investigation continued, and they said it is still ongoing.

None of the drivers have been charged or cited.

Toxicology results of the victim are pending.
