Southern Indiana fire chief placed on paid administrative leave

Fire Chief Jeremy Klein was placed on paid administrative leave on the Fourth of July.

FLOYDS KNOBS, Ind. — A fire chief in southern Indiana was placed on paid administrative leave on the Fourth of July.

Highlander Fire Protection District (HFPD) Chief Jeremy Klein in Floyds Knobs, Ind. was put on leave. HFPD Trustee Ron Webber told WHAS11 details about why he was removed cannot be released at this time.

Deputy Chief Terry Herthel has assumed the responsibilities of chief during the investigation.

"Chief Klein was placed on Paid Administrative Leave July 4, 2024. Deputy Chief Terry Herthel has assumed the Chiefs responsibilities and will be in that capacity throughout the investigation. The Chief leads the department, the men and women of Highlander Fire Department are the ones who make the department what it is. That is all I can say about the issue at this time," Webber said in a statement.
