Indiana man rescued, arrested after vehicle found submerged in Ohio River

A call for a vehicle submerged in the river in Mauckport ended with a man's arrest who was wanted on an active warrant.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A call for a vehicle sinking in the Ohio River ended with a man’s arrest in southern Indiana.

Indiana State Police said the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch received a call on Friday about a vehicle submerged in the river at the Mauckport boat ramp.

Troopers along with first responders arrived and found the Ford F-150 mostly submerged that likely “backed too far down the boat ramp.”

James Schuppert, 61, of Mauckport, was identified as the driver of the vehicle and was inside.

Authorities said they were “familiar” with Schuppert and knew he had an active warrant for his arrest.

A diver and a tow-truck helped get Schuppert and his vehicle from the waters.

Schuppert was taken into custody.

He faces a count of manufacturing meth, possession of meth and possession of paraphernalia.

Schuppert is currently housed at the Harrison County Jail.
